The Warpzone

Welcome to the Warpzone !

Thanks to RetroPolo, we were invited to the retro gaming festival Warpzone in May 2025 — an event that gathered nearly 2,000 retro enthusiasts. For us, it was a huge milestone: the very first public reveal of what was still called Project F.

That’s when we also had to settle on a real name for the game. After going through more than thirty options, we finally chose Vector F. “Vector” refers to the deadly beam that stalks you in the game, while the letter “F” can mean many things: Freedom, Faster, Fearless, Famous… Each one could find a place somewhere in the game’s world or menus.

At the same time, we needed a name for our crew. That turned out to be trickier, but we eventually landed on Gonesbrew. In Lyon, France, “Gones” means “kids,” and the wordplay with homebrew felt just right.

After two intense weeks of crunch, we managed to deliver a playable prototype with a polished title screen and even a custom SEGA-style splash screen. This was our first pre-alpha build — the one you may have seen on YouTube (thanks to Blog2Geek and LifeIsAVideoGame for sharing it). If you missed it, check our first post 😉

I can’t even begin to describe how much work went into reaching this point. More than a thousand hours since July 2024, starting from absolutely nothing. We had to imagine everything: art, design, lore… every single piece from scratch.

During Warpzone, we received incredible support. People came to play, to encourage us, to give feedback. We had the chance to talk with dozen of gamers, gather fresh ideas, and soak in all the energy. At the end of the event, it felt like our team had been given wings — ready to take Vector F higher than we ever imagined.

Or so we thought... what happened next almost stopped Vector F in its tracks, as I'll explain in the next entry. Stay Tuned !
